Salt Print Self Portrait
Salt prints are one of the earliest forms of photo printing, they use a combination of table salt and silver nitrate to create a print of a negative. The requirement for this project was to have some form of self-portrait as well as the use of a cliche verre, which is mark-making on a plate that is used to expose a print. I decided to take the literal definition of a self-portrait and focused on capturing insecurities I have about my body. The cliche verre aspect is the border of the prints, I squished acrylic paint between two plates of plexiglass to create a texture that could be seen as cells, skin texture, or even just an abstract pattern. This series did end up helping to ease some of the insecurities I captured in the images.
